Peter Daleman is a self‑taught acrylic painter who begins most days long before sunrise, working in his Bell Lake studio while the first light comes up over the water. Deeply inspired by Lawren Harris, he translates the lakes, shorelines, back roads, old stores, vintage cars and cottages of the Parry Sound region into simplified forms, bold colour and gently abstracted compositions. Working from his own photographs and daily observations, Peter signs many pieces “Van Dal,” a nod to his Dutch roots and his playful approach to painting. A big believer that anyone can learn to paint, he hopes his work invites viewers to slow down, notice their own surroundings differently, and maybe pick up a brush.
